13 Best One-Hitters & Chillums in 2024 for Solo Smoking

Chillums and one-hitters are pretty cheap, so finding a few that were actually hype-worthy was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. The simplest one-hitter designs are just glass or metal tubes that you can get for around five bucks literally anywhere.

That said if you’re someone who wants something higher quality that’s actually going to last, stick around because, over the years, I’ve owned and tested dozens of one-hitters.

Some of the best one hitters and chillums side by side

Below, we’ll be sharing the best one-hitters at each price point and explain the main advantages and drawbacks of each. There’s something for everyone on this list, so we’re confident you can find something perfectly suited to your lifestyle. If you’re unsure, we also have a guide on the difference between a one-hitter and a chillum at the bottom of the page.

I hate putting a rather pricey one-hitter at the top of the list since I don’t think any hunk of metal (especially a one-hitter) should cost that much. That said, it goes without saying that DYNAVAP’s M Plus deserves this spot, even with the price tag. The M stands for microdose, which covers its perfectly portable size. Even though it’s small, it’s powerful, and there’s so much to love about it.

Build Quality

The M Plus is virtually indestructible and made from medical-grade stainless steel. I ran this thing over with my car to see if I could, and it was fine. That said, it’s the last one-hitter you’ll ever buy. It’s also one of the most versatile and valuable versions out there.

M Plus is a small, portable one-hitter that can vaporize your weed without burning it, and the best part is that it works with an ordinary lighter, so you don’t have to worry about batteries or chargers or anything like that. While it does work best with a small butane torch lighter, it works just fine with the classic sort. You might have to hold it to the flame a little longer to get everything going, though.

It features a nice knurled texture that almost gives it a beautiful wood-grain look, though it’s made entirely with metal. It has one of the largest carbs I’ve seen on any one-hitter, so it feels great in your hand, and it’s easy to find and adjust your airflow as you hit it without looking at it.

M Plus has a tapered mouthpiece that feels great while hitting it, but also makes it compatible with 10mm bongs or rigs with a female joint. It’s a super nice feature, especially if you want to take a dab the old-fashioned way but don’t want to worry about cleaning out a quartz nail.

The most critical design feature is its chamber, though. It can only handle flower out of the box, but you can buy a separate attachment that makes it compatible with concentrates, too. That said, the chamber is one of the best I’ve seen. It has a nice deep dosing compartment with a serrated edge that acts like a built-in grinder when you twist the cap on. The tip is finless but comes with marks that show you exactly where you should hit it with the flame to expedite the heating process.

Last but not least, the thing is adjustable. The M Plus comes with DYNAVAP’s signature adjust-a-bowl feature that allows you to customize the chamber size to hold larger or smaller amounts of weed, making it easy to microdose if that’s your thing. Best of all, if something goes wrong, DYNAVAP offers a limited lifetime warranty.

Size and Portability

If you look at product photos, it can be hard to tell how small this thing actually is. It’s small enough to conceal the whole thing in your hand— though I don’t recommend it, especially if you just heated it up. It’s a little longer than a standard lighter and thin, though it has a nice, heavy weight. It tucks easily into a bag or pocket and can go anywhere you go. I also really like the size of the chamber, too. It can hold about 0.25g at full capacity, which is big for a one-hitter and will give you a couple of hits. The adjustable bowl feature can also limit it down to as small as 0.1g for single hits and microdose seshes.

Features

You can use the M Plus as a dry herb or concentrate vaporizer with nothing but a lighter, which is incredible to me. The built-in grinder ensures your flower is the perfect consistency for vaporization, and I love that the chamber is marked with lines to make heating efficient and intuitive. You can have a good hit from it in seconds, though it will take longer than your standard one-hitter that catches on fire. I love the tapered mouthpiece, too. I enjoy the multi-use aspect of this one since it can be used with concentrates and flower both as a one-hitter and as an attachment for a bong or rig. The adjustable bowl feature is simple and intuitive, and the whole design is beautiful and sturdy, so it’s a solid 10/10 in my book.

Ease of use

The only area this one hitter suffers a bit is in ease of use. While the device is straightforward, it can take a while to get the hang of how much you can load into the chamber at once and how long it takes to heat it to start producing vapor. You might have to apply flame directly for a few seconds before taking a hit, which can detract from its portability and discretion.

If you’re not careful, you can also burn yourself on the metal. However, the metal cap retains heat really well, so once it’s warm, you can still pull from it multiple times. Loading, unloading, and reloading is a breeze, though. Each piece comes apart quickly, so it’s easy to clean and store.

Performance

The airflow control on this one hitter is exceptional, so it can pull massive hits in a short amount of time. Since it works like a vaporizer, you’re not really at risk of inhaling scoobs or dealing with a lot of resin buildup, so you can go longer without cleaning the M Plus than you could with other one hitters. The oven chamber toasts everything evenly, so you really save a lot of weed and get the most out of it, which saves you money. The vape tech also means that it just tastes great. While it can get a little warm, being totally metal, the flavors are on point.

Who This is Ideal For

At $90, DYNAVAP’s M Plus is perfect for anyone looking for a versatile, flavorful, and intuitive one-hitter that you’ll never have to replace. With more features than a Swiss army knife, it outperforms every other one-hitter on this list. That said, the M Plus is the best one-hitter for connoisseurs who want to get the best flavors out of their weed on the go.

2. Vessel Helix (Best Overall Chillum)

Vessel is well-known for many different smoking accessories, so when I saw their one-hitter, Helix, I felt it deserved a shot. In true chillum fashion, it doesn’t have a carb. But don’t worry; its spiral design keeps your smoke cool and smooth.

Build Quality

Helix is made from pure, non-toxic brass that beats aluminum in flavor and durability. This little chillum utilizes a double-helix design that doubles the vapor path of the device, allowing for a longer path to cool your smoke before it hits your lungs. Since it doesn’t have a carb, this is a huge perk if you like the convenience of a one-hitter but hate how harsh they can be.

What I love most about it, though, is the aesthetic appeal. The thing is gorgeous and comes in several colors that don’t scratch or flake off easily. The bowl is attached to the spiral, which slides into the body and tapered mouthpiece. As you light the end and inhale, the smoke travels up the coil to cool it down before it hits your lungs.

Overall, Helix is well-machined, durable, and visually stunning. My only complaint is that, unlike many others on this list, it doesn’t come with a cap to store your weed before smoking it, which hurts its portability a little bit.

Size and Portability

Helix is very small, but the bowl is pretty large. That said, I usually get 3-4 hits out of it before I need to cash it and reload. The design gives it a really incognito look and feel, and you can hide it entirely in the palm of your hand. That said, you can take it everywhere. As I mentioned, the only downside is that it lacks a cap, so tossing it haphazardly into a bag can cause you to spill your weed. It’s super discreet, but portability is a minor concern.

Features

The most memorable thing about Helix is the spiral design. That double helix core at the center of the device provides more surface area to cool down your hits, so you’re getting incredibly smooth draws from a minimal design with minimal airflow.

As you use it, it gets gunked up with resin, which is both a bug and a feature. On the one hand, that extra resin provides a long vapor path to cool smoke, with the added benefit of preventing anything but smoke from getting through. Chillums are notorious for scoobs, and the more you use Helix, the less likely they will show up. However, the other hand comes down to flavor. Letting that resin build-up affects the flavor and can impart a stale flavor to your smoke.

I suggest cleaning it more than letting the res build-up, though. It’s surprisingly hard to suck a scoob through the spiral design as it is, so prioritize flavor by cleaning it regularly. Luckily, everything comes apart easily, so soak the parts in iso once in a while, and you’re ready to roll.

Ease of use

Helix is one of the easiest to use on this list. All you have to do is load the bowl with some coarsely ground flower and light the end while inhaling through the mouthpiece. You can get 3-4 hits before you need to clean it out and reload it. Emptying it is super easy since all you have to do is whack it a little, and the material comes right out. If you pack tight, you might have to go in with a toothpick, but nothing unusual. The best part is that it’s easy to clean. Everything comes apart and reattaches with minimal effort.

Performance

I’m impressed with how well these little beauties work. You can get 3-4 nice deep hits out of it without burning your lips or lungs. The helix design does an excellent job of cooling that smoke down, so the device rarely gets hot. The flavor is also good since it smoothes out along the spiral. The biggest issue is the gunk buildup. Cleaning the coil can be kind of annoying, though it’s not really that important since it doesn’t alter flavors too much. Pulling from it is smooth, too, as long as you don’t pack it too tight. The bottom line is that it doesn’t have a carb because it doesn’t need one.

Who This is Ideal For

Helix is your go-to if you’re looking for something discreet and stylish with a larger capacity and great flavors. The Vessel Helix is the best chillum in terms of durability, aesthetic appeal, and top-of-the-line performance. It could be the poster child for the saying, “buy once, cry once.”

3. Marley Natural Smoked Glass Taster (Best Tube)

Marley Natural never disappoints with its sleek, sexy designs. Unsurprisingly, they have a pretty excellent little one-hitter, too. Gorgeous looks aside, it’s as small as they come and loaded with features that make it taste great.

Build Quality

Made from handblown borosilicate glass, Marley Natural’s Smoked Glass Taster is just about as sturdy as glass can get. Since the design is more or less a perfect tube, there isn’t much room for error. Sure, they’re prone to damage, considering they’re made of glass. But if you take care not to throw it around, there’s not much to worry about.

What I love most about this design is the color. It has this beautiful smoky gray finish with exquisite golden finishes. It also has a pretty deep bowl for the size, and the mouthpiece is tapered to make it more comfortable to hold in your mouth while also preventing you from sucking in little bits of weed.

Size and Portability

At 3” long, these tasters are just as simple and discreet as they get. The bowl has an extra deep capacity, too, so even though it’s a true one-hitter in essence, you can usually get 3-4 good hits from it before you need to reload. It’s exceptionally portable for its size, though I wish it had a little cap to keep it loaded and toss it into a bag.

Features

While this taster is very simplistic in design, it comes with many desirable features. For starters, the aesthetic appeal is second to none. It might be a one-hitter, but it looks sleek and sexy when you’re puffing on it. As far as the design goes, it features a tapered mouthpiece with a built-in ash catcher. While it isn’t perfect at keeping the scoobs out, the airflow is fantastic, and it does a really good job considering that little fact. The bowl is also much deeper than the other one-hitters this size, so considering that it’s a pretty good chillum when you and two friends want a hit simultaneously.

Ease of use

All one hitters are easy to use, and this taster is no different. Loading and reloading is a breeze, but you’ll want to keep a poker on hand if you’re not pre-grinding. When it’s getting gunked up, just let it soak in some iso, and you’re ready to roll.

Performance

Marley Natural rarely disappoints, and their taster is no different. It’s durable and works well with nice, strong airflow for bigger hits. The only thing I don’t like about it is that the small size doesn’t give much surface area for the smoke to cool, so it’s super prone to getting hot, so the flavor suffers a little bit. But the ashcatch works well, and the deep bowl is perfect for running multiple hits.

Who This is Ideal For

For $20, you won’t find a better chillum that looks this nice and has as many features. This is the best taster on this list, especially if you’re looking for something simplistic, easy to clean, and easy to use.

4. GRAV 12mm Taster with Silicone Skin (Best Taster)

The GRAV website said you could throw their silicone tasters into a wall, and they wouldn’t break, so I did. Surprisingly, it didn’t shatter into a million pieces. Why? Unlike regular glass tasters, these come with a silicone shell that helps absorb shock. Pretty cool, huh? There’s a lot more to love than this simple fix, though.

Build Quality

Made from heavy-duty borosilicate glass, these tasters are simple in design, like most tasters. However, these feature a pinched mouthpiece that helps keep the scoobs out. More importantly, the material stands up well to abuse and stays cool even with repeat use.

The biggest feature is the silicone skin, though. The silicone shell is like a sleeve that you can remove from the taster, but it helps to keep it on when it’s not in use. The skin helps to keep the glass safe but also makes it easier to find if you misplace it. They come in many great colors, so they stand out pretty well despite being on the small side. The best part is that the silicone skin also has a cap that you can use to cover the end of the taster, keeping your weed safely stored inside when you’re taking it on the go.

Ultimately, these things are super durable and look great to boot. My only complaint is that I wish they’d put a flat surface on the skin so the taster doesn’t roll away when you set it down on a table. The good news is that even if it rolls off the table, it probably won’t break.

Size and Portability

GRAVs silicone skinned tasters are roughly 4” long, offering a nice vapor path that helps cool your smoke. The silicone cap also lets you store hits for future use, which is a nice touch since one-hitters are designed to be taken on the go. I can toss this into my pocket or backpack without worrying about all of my weed coming loose. Better yet, it holds about 2-3 hits at a time, so it has a great size capacity. These are exceptional if you want something portable since they’re small, durable, and protected.

Features

The main features are the silicone skin and the pinched mouthpiece, which work great. Starting with the pinched mouthpiece, you get a comfortable place to put your lips, with the bonus that larger weed particles can’t get sucked into your mouth. Granted if you rip it, you might get some crumbs, but that comes with the territory of one-hitters in general.

The silicone shell is excellent and keeps the taster itself safe. I love that it comes in so many colors that you can stretch it over the end to store your weed and keep it intact while you take it on the go. I don’t like that the skin is a little loose, so it slides around on the taster a bit. Further, you have to pull the skin off to remove the cap, leaving it mostly unprotected when hitting it. If you’re accident-prone, that can be kind of a problem.

Regardless, both features work as intended, and hits from this taster taste great.

Ease of use

All one hitters are super simple to use. To load it, remove the silicone cap and stuff your weed in. All you have to do from there is hit it like normal. Ash it or use a toothpick to clear it. It gets a few bonus points in the cleaning department, though, since the silicone skin comes off and the design itself is really simple; all you have to do is soak it in iso occasionally.

Performance

As far as tasters go, GRAV’s version doesn’t disappoint. It’s durable and easy to load and use. With repeat use, it stays cool and won’t burn your lips. The length gives it a nice long vapor path, which helps cool down your hits and keeps the scoobs from flying into your mouth. Better yet, the silicone shell really helps to keep it safe and performing at its best. It’s a very simple design but highly functional.

Who This is Ideal For

At $12, this is one of the most affordable chillums and one-hitters on this list. However, it’s an exceptional value for its durable design and excellent performance. Choose the GRAV Taster with Silicone Skin whenever you want something portable and convenient.

5. Jane West Solo (Best Stealth One-Hitter)

Jane West is a cannabis activist who founded Women Grow— so you know she smokes. Her one-hitter design, The Solo, is a beautiful, sleek, and incognito device that looks like a fancy ballpoint pen. This design really takes the concept of portability and discretion and elevates it to a whole new level.

Build Quality

The Solo is gorgeous and has a square shape that won’t roll away when you set it down on a table. I don’t know why there are still so many designs out there that haven’t factored this little blessing into their one-hitters, but this is by far one of my favorite things about this device.

Made with an aluminum core to prevent overheating and a kitchen-safe enamel coating to protect it from wear and tear, it’s incredibly durable. It also has a perfectly portioned silver-tipped bowl and a built-in multi-tool that makes cleaning and reloading it a breeze.

Size and Portability

At 4 inches long, it’s a great size for taking with you on the go. It fits comfortably into a pocket or bag and holds a perfect two hits with every shot. The multi-tool slides into the top of the one hitter for storage, which is great for keeping everything you need conveniently locked into one place. It’s a great travel companion or an excellent choice if you’re just into microdosing.

Features

The shining feature is that square design, as I mentioned. Finally, someone who uses one-hitters designed a one-hitter that’s comfortable to hold and won’t roll off of a table and break. I love the metal core, which provides a nice long vapor path to keep the smoke nice and cool, and the coating that keeps the outside looking sleek and elegant without getting a ton of scratches from normal wear and tear.

The poker is also a nice feature, but it kind of grosses me out. I might be super picky here, but it seems counterintuitive to slide a resin-coated poker back into the device— it means you’ll have to clean it more often. Further, you have to take the multi-tool out to hit it.

Ease of use

I love the simplicity of this design. It takes on a bat shape, so it’s long and narrow. The included multi-tool helps keep it clean, but it is a bit prone to getting clogged with regular use. You’ll also want to clean it daily to keep it looking and tasting its best.

That said, though, not a whole lot of complaints. It’s easy to load, hitting it is as simple as possible, and the tool makes it easy to scrape out to reload. All the parts come apart, so it’s easy to clean them. Just keep in mind that you may need to clean it more often, and you might have to use pipe cleaners to get tough messes out of the inner chamber since you can’t see through it like glass versions.

Performance

Out of all the one-hitters on this list, this one stays cool and tastes the best. It feels really good in your hand, and the mouthpiece is comfortable. It holds the perfect amount of weed, and the airflow is top-notch. The only real complaint is that it can get clogged pretty easily like all skinny, narrow bat-style pipes.

Who This is Ideal For

For $12, this is one of the best one-hitter pipes out there if you want something sleek and stealthy. It looks like an ordinary pen, but it holds the perfect amount of weed so you can get your sesh in quickly and discreetly. It also gets bonus points for the easy-to-hold design and the fact that it won’t roll away.

There are a lot of affordable options on this list because one hitters are inherently cheap. That being said, I was on a mission to find a one-hitter that was affordable but could also hold its own against some of the more expensive models on the list. I settled on the taster by Higher Standards, and here’s why.

Build Quality

Coming strong right out of the gate is the durable borosilicate built on these tasters. Higher Standards is well known for its glass quality; they did a great job designing these. Not only are these tasters durable, but they’re also absolutely gorgeous and classy looking. They come in clear or frosted glass. I prefer the frosted glass since it looks a little more elegant, but the finish doesn’t affect the quality. Etched into the side is the iconic Higher Standards triangle logo.

While simple in design, the bowl end does feature a pinched section that makes it harder to suck weed particles into the body or, worse, your lungs. It’s a nice touch you don’t see in all designs, especially at this end of the pricing spectrum.

Size and Portability

The Higher Standards taster is one of the smaller ones on the list at 3.5″ in length. The bowl is a little deeper, so you can get about 2-4 hits out of it before you need to ash and reload, depending on how hard you hit it. Thanks to the durable build and pocket-friendly size, it’s as portable as they come. Its simple glass look also makes it appear pretty nondescript and discreet, which is perfect when you’re looking for a quick hit on the go.

Features

As far as one-hitters go, these tasters are on the bare end of the spectrum. Since they’re perfectly cylindrical, they’re prone to rolling off a table and breaking. However, the boro glass build makes it great against heat, so it isn’t likely to burn you even with repeat use. While the pinched bowl is a nice feature and helps with airflow, small weed particles are still likely to get sucked through. That said, it’s part of the territory, so if that’s a no-go, I highly recommend bringing the filters.

Ease of use

This one is very straightforward. Load one end with weed, spark it with a lighter, and inhale through the other end. When you’re done, all you have to do is wack it to cash it or head in with a toothpick to scrape out the leftovers. Since it’s made of glass, it’s super easy to keep clean and hygienic. When it’s time to unload the resin, soak it in some iso, and it’s as good as new.

Performance

Features aside, these tasters work beautifully. Seriously, I have no complaints. The glass doesn’t get too hot, even with much abuse. The other one-hitters I tested in this price range burned me, got clogged, or didn’t burn evenly. That said, these outperformed all of those. The airflow on it is excellent, and the glass doesn’t alter the weed flavors in any way, so I’m thoroughly impressed.

Who This is Ideal For

At $10, this is by far the best budget option if you want something that performs flawlessly and can stand up to heat. Based on its performance and build quality alone, it’s a top contender for other spots on this list, but its price point puts it in a category all of its own.

7. The Dart Pro (Best Metal One Hitter)

Criteria Rating (1-10)

The Dart is just plain impressive. It’s a reimagined bat-style one-hitter that solves the clogging problem with a spring-loaded mechanism that dislodges ash and leftovers with the press of a button. Needless to say, it’s loaded with other features that make it one of my favorites out of everything on this list.

Build Quality

The Dart Pro is made with CNC-machined anodized aluminum, so it’s as sturdy as possible. The body has an attached silicone sleeve that gives you a more comfortable grip and also keeps your fingers from getting warmed when you hit it back to back.

Inside, you’ll find a machined metal core with a smooth interior that helps reduce mess and limit resin buildup. It also provides a nice long vapor path to help cool that smoke down while you hit it. The herb chamber features a beveled edge that makes it even easier to scoop up ground material from a canister and connects to the top of the device, which houses the spring mechanism, a built-in filter for extra smooth smoke, and the button, which contains a built-in mesh screen that acts as an ash catcher if you choose not to use the filter.

Overall, it has a beautiful, sleek look, and its durability is on point. The filter, ash-ejection spring, and button work flawlessly time and time again.

Size and Portability

The Dart Pro is average-sized at about 4″ long. The nice, deep bowl can hold .25g of weed at a time, which is a lot larger than other devices this size. All that is to say that it’s as portable as they come. Between the sleek, stealthy design and the size, it’s an excellent option for taking it on the go. I just wish it came with a cap or had some built-in storage to make it a little more portable without having to carry around a separate container for weed.

Features

The Dart Pro utilizes a patented spring-loaded ashing system that makes it much easier to expel your leftovers from the pipe without carrying around a tool to dig it out yourself. All you have to do is push a button, and you’re ready to reload. The slick interior coating also helps prevent resin buildup, so you can go much longer than average without cleaning.

One of the biggest features is the replaceable filter system and mesh screen. It practically eliminates scoobs, and amplifies the flavor of your weed. I think it’s a little bit of a pain in the ass to change out the filters, but you can still use them without them since the mouthpiece has a built-in screen. However, they threw in 120 free filters with the device, so that’s a nice touch.

The silicone grip is also a nice bonus since it keeps your hands cool and makes it much more comfortable to hold and use The Dart. I love how it works and how smooth and cool the smoke that comes out of it is.

Ease of use

With so many working parts, it can be tricky to take them apart and put them back together, but the good news is that it comes with a pretty detailed instruction and maintenance manual. Loading it is as simple as loading any other bat-style one-hitter, and unloading it is as easy as ever with the spring-loaded ashing tech that allows you to expel the leftovers by pushing a button. Cleaning it is also a breeze since you don’t have to do it often, and everything can be soaked in iso.

Performance

The filter tech, both with the actual mouthpiece and the filter housing, makes a huge difference in smoke quality. I’ve never sucked a scoob through this thing, and that’s one of the things I hate most about using one-hitters. It doesn’t get hot, it burns evenly, and it doesn’t get dirty, even with regular use. All of the features are thoughtful and intuitive, but more importantly, they work repeatedly. It offers an all-around perfect experience.

Who This is Ideal For

For $30, The Dart Pro is one of the best one-hitters out there if you want something convenient and easy to use. There’s minimal hassle using one of these, and more importantly, it performs exceptionally thanks to the impressive metal build.

When I think of one-hitters, the first thing that comes to my mind is always the classic dugout tech. Y’know— the little wooden box with the ceramic tube? It gives the best of both worlds, combining weed storage and a way to smoke it. Naturally, I love dugouts. I tried several, but EYCE’s Solo is the best of the best.

Build Quality

EYCE specializes in silicone, so the SOLO dugout case is made from it. It’s virtually indestructible and comes in a ton of great colors. Mine is this cool gray-orange swirly thing, and I love it. The case holds together nicely, and it’s never a pain to open or use.

Under the hood is the included glass taster, made from heavy-duty borosilicate glass that stands up to heat and accidental drops well. The taster is just a tube with a bowl on the end of it, and It’s glass, so yeah, it’s fragile, but it’s super safe inside the silicone case. Solo also comes with a metal poker that makes it easy to cash your bowl when you’re done with it. Each piece has its snug compartment, but getting every piece in and out is still easy.

Size and Portability

Solo is pocket-sized, making it the perfect travel companion. It holds up to an eighth of bud and keeps all your smoking materials (minus the lighter) in one convenient, lightweight, and durable package. The taster itself is tiny, so it’s a one-hitter in the traditional sense. It’ll get you one or two hits at max, but it’s easy to cash out and pack without fumbling with your weed. Dip the taster into the storage compartment, and you’re ready. The best part is that the case is discreet. It could be anything from a headphone case to a lighter, and it keeps all the stuff you want hidden away from prying eyes.

Features

Solo is loaded with features. First of all, nothing beats a dugout design for convenience and portability. However, the intuitive look is noteworthy too. Solo can hold a lot of ground flower, but that flower stays fresh with the locking airtight lid. You’ll also find a secret storage compartment at the bottom. The whole thing looks seamless, so it’s as discreet and pocket-friendly as they come.

I also love that they threw in the taster and the poker. The taster isn’t all that special but is durable and fits comfortably inside the silicone shell. The poker is a nice touch since tasters can get clogged or jammed easily, and having something on hand to deal with it is always nice.

Ease of use

Since every piece of Solo is designed to work in harmony with one another, it’s super easy to use this one-hitter. Loading it is as simple as dipping the taster into the storage compartment to scoop up some flower to smoke and then lighting it up and inhaling.

After your hit, tap the taster or use the steel poker to dig out any leftovers. From there, you can either reload or stick the poker and taster back into their compartments for future use. It tucks easily into a pocket, so it’s always ready whenever you are. Best of all, the simple design is beyond easy to clean. An iso soak every so often is all you need to keep it working flawlessly.

Performance

In terms of discretion and portability, Solo is a top performer. However, the perks of the dugout don’t account for the performance of the one-hitter itself. The glass taster included with Solo is ultimately pretty basic, but I love that it’s made with boro glass. The heavy-duty glass helps keep it cool while you hit it. It pulls surprisingly well, but it can be a little harsh since there’s not a lot of room for cooling or any filtering whatsoever.

Who This is Ideal For

For $20, EYCE’s Solo is one of the best one-hitter dugouts out there if you’re looking for an all-in-one approach. Nothing beats a good dugout for convenience, so choose this one if you’re looking for something portable, affordable, and discreet.

I know I just went on a super long rant about how badass The Dart is for the spring-loaded tech, but RYOT put one out, too, and it’s equally excellent. I adore this one for its beautiful wooden design but also for the edge it has by being compatible with all of RYOT’s gorgeous dugouts.

Build Quality

These little taster-style one-hitters come in multiple sizes to give you more control over how much you get in one sitting. I went with the standard 3″ version and chose it in walnut. Made from natural wood, you can also choose bamboo, rosewood, maple, or walnut to cater to your preferences. The walnut finish is gorgeous, and I’m sure the others are equally impressive.

The core and mouthpieces are made from aluminum, which is durable and lightweight. More importantly, it absorbs heat well and offers a nice, long vapor path to get smooth, rich hits. The wood and metal combo is excellent and looks stunning.

The spring mechanism is also well made, but I have a complaint. Unlike The Dart, where you can remove the chamber for reloading, RYOT’s version is attached. That said, reloading can be awkward when you’re using it with a dugout since you either have to counterintuitively press down on the button while trying to pack it or, alternatively, hold it by the lip under the button, which is plain awkward.

Regardless, these things are as sturdy as they come, especially compared to glass. The taster style offers a larger vapor path, so you’re not getting clogged as often, though you’re definitely a little more prone to scoobs.

Size and Portability

At 3″ long, they’re perfectly pocket-sized and make a great travel companion, especially when you pair them with RYOTs dugouts. In true one-hitter fashion, it’ll get you about two puffs per pack, which is pretty good. Being no bigger than a lighter, you can take it with you pretty much anywhere. I think if this device was included with the dugouts and not sold separately, they’d be as portable as they come, but on its own, it’s still excellent and discreet.

Features

The biggest feature of these one-hitters is that gorgeous wooden finish. I’m unsure if I’m actually placebo-effecting myself or if wood just tastes better, but I’d pick a wooden one-hitter over a metal or glass one any day of the week because I can smell that wood while I’m hitting it. They also have an edge over glass for not being as fragile, even though they need to be cleaned more meticulously.

However, the spring system is also noteworthy. The design allows you to press lightly on the button to ash it, and if you press it all the way down, it’ll cash it and make it ready for the reload. I enjoy these auto-ashers, though. Digging weed out of a one-hitter with a toothpick is a much bigger pain in the ass than just carrying a vape pen around or something a little more convenient. That said, the spring ejection makes it much more convenient.

Ease of use

RYOT’s wooden one-hitter has flaws, though. As I mentioned, the chamber not separating from the button can make it awkward to reload. However, it simplifies the unloading process, which is the most annoying part about using a one-hitter. It’s surprisingly easy to clean, though. Wood requires special care, so you can only clean it with mild soap, water, and a soft pipe cleaner. But the aluminum core is easy to clean, thanks to the ash ejector, so it’s not bad.

Performance

At the end of the day, it does what it’s supposed to. It stays cool with back-to-back use, the airflow is excellent, and the ash ejection system works beautifully. It doesn’t get dirty super quick, either. I enjoy the way my weed tastes when I smoke out of this one, too.

Who This is Ideal For

At $12, this one can’t be beaten for its features alone. RYOT’s version won’t disappoint you if you’re especially partial to beautifully designed, wooden one-hitters.

10. Laundry Day Charlotte Pipe (Best Glass Chillum)

I’m not usually too big on buying glass from people who specialize in art. In my experience, pieces like that focus more on form than function. That said, I was surprised to see so many people recommending the Charlotte Pipe by Laundry Day. I was even more surprised that it worked so well.

Build Quality

Each Charlotte pipe is handmade, so they come in many different colors. Made from borosilicate glass, it’s durable and keeps cool. The design features a donut-like tube in the middle that gives smoke an extra long vapor pathway for cooling down and filtering out scoobs so they don’t make it to your mouth.

The mouthpiece is just a plain, rounded tube, but the bowl is extra deep. My only issue is that you have to use a screen with it. The airflow hole at the bottom of the bowl is too large, so you’re sucking scoobs into it with every use otherwise. Aside from that, though, it’s gorgeous and functional.

Size and Portability

Charlotte is about 4.5” long, so it’s on the larger side but still a pocketable chillum. The rounded shape in the center is a little awkward to stick into a pocket, but it slides comfortably into a bag with no issues. As for discretion, it’s a little uncomfortable to conceal, but since it doesn’t look like an ordinary pipe, I think it gets a few points for stealth. The best thing about it is the extra deep bowl, which has a whopping 1.75” depth, allowing you to load it up with weed for multiple seshes with friends or load lightly for one-hitter or microdose usage. Seriously, you can get a lot of weed out of these things.

Features

The biggest and best feature of this chillum is the rounded center. By creating that circle in the glass, the smoke has two pathways to travel, which helps to cool down that smoke a lot. You can hit this thing back to back without getting burned. More importantly, it also acts as a kind of wall that scoobs sucked in through the bowl smack into to help filter them from making their way into your lungs while ripping it.

The extra deep bowl is also a fantastic touch. It gives you a lot of control over how much you smoke. You can pack it lightly with just enough for yourself or load it up completely and hit it back to back. The only thing I don’t like is that the airflow hole on the bowl end is so large that you’ll suck a lot of weed through it if you don’t use a screen.

Ease of use

Charlotte is an exceptionally easy chillum. There’s nothing to worry about. The deep bowl is easy to load and can hold whole nugs if you don’t want to pre-grind your weed or worry about a screen. All you have to do is pack it and light it, and you’re getting great hits and flavors. Since the bowl is so large, it’s easy to stir and cash out, though you will need a stir stick or a poker if you’re using sticky weed. Since it’s made from glass, cleaning is a breeze. Just let it soak in some iso and give it a rinse whenever you start to see resin building up.

Performance

The airflow in this chillum is exceptional. You can get really big hits from this thing with just a crumb of weed, and your weed burns evenly, so it’s impressive. I like how it looks and feels while you hold it and hit it, and I love the size, which gives you more control over how much you smoke or share. The flavors are phenomenal, thanks to the extra-long vapor path. Since it’s so broad and made from low-maintenance glass, it takes a while to get dirty, and it’s such a low-maintenance chillum to clean. Between the exceptional flavor, cooling, and filtering tech, Charlotte is a top performer in my book.

Who This is Ideal For

At $60, these are a little pricey, but they’re perfect if you’re looking for a functional art piece that you can use on your own or take on the go for a flavorful sesh with friends. I think this is by far one of the best glass chillums on this list.

If there were an award for best design, 7Pipe’s Twisty would take it home. This one-hitter design gives you fresh greens with every hit through a patented twisting motion— and best of all, it comes in many different sizes.

Build Quality

Twisty is a super unique pipe designed to replace joints or blunts. That said, it’s both a one-hitter and simultaneously not. It comes in many different sizes, including the Mini Twisty, which holds a half gram, and the Super Twisty, which holds a massive two ounces. I purchased the Original Twisty, which is only 4” long, like most chillums or one-hitters.

While it holds more than one puff of weed, it’s a one-hitter to its core since twisting it gives you fresh greens every time, and capping it will snuff it out to preserve its freshness. While it’s more like a fancy joint, it’s also an exceptional chillum.

Made from Pyrex glass and brass with a special aluminum coating, it utilizes a patented helix design that screws into the mouthpiece. Twisting the mouthpiece will push your material towards the burning end to keep it freshly packed at all times. More importantly, that spiral design creates a nice long vapor path to help cool down your hits, kind of like the Vessel Helix. It’s surprisingly durable, as well as small and sleek.

Size and Portability

The Original Twisty is roughly 4” long and holds 2g of ground flower. It’s almost like a taster with a built-in dugout and a fantastic spiral feature that helps cool smoke. It comes with a plastic cap that helps keep your weed inside while you’re on the go, so it’s just about as portable and discreet as they come. You can hit it as many times as you’d like by simply twisting until you’re done smoking, knocking off the ash or cherry, and putting the cap back on. This one is one of my favorites, and I take it with me whenever I hang out with friends.

Features

Twisty is loaded with features. First and foremost is the helix design, which just about doubles the length of the vapor path, providing extra surface area to cool and smooth your smoke before it reaches your lungs. Its heat-sinking properties work remarkably well, so the mouthpiece rarely gets hot, and your hits are super cool.

The spiral design also has the added benefit of constantly supplying the cherry with fresh greens. 7Pipe calls this feature the infini-cherry— as you twist the screw, the cherry is supplied with fresh greens to keep it burning and drastically lower the need to re-light it. It keeps it burning evenly and beautifully.

The screw tech is also great when you’re done smoking. Twisting it allows you to ash it easily, knock the cherry off, and cap it for future use with ease. For a one-hitter, this thing is insanely versatile and loaded with functional features that have honestly changed the way I smoke.

Ease of use

Twisty can be a little complicated when you’re first getting started. Unlike other chillums you load as you go, this one must be pre-loaded before you can enjoy it. To do that, you have to grind up enough flower and load it into the glass tube. From there, you have to turn the mouthpiece and helix into the flower counter-clockwise while holding your finger on the cap to keep your weed from falling out the bottom. Once it’s attached and everything is snug, you can remove the cap, spark up, and hit it.

To ash it, you twist the mouthpiece clockwise to push the fresh flower forward, and use a lighter or gently tap it to knock the cherry off when you’re done. You can reload it while it’s rolling, but it can be a bit of a hassle. Luckily, everything comes apart easily, so cleaning it is a snap. Once you get the hang of it, it’s actually really easy, but it loses points for the initial learning curve.

Performance

Honestly, I’ve been using my Twisty as a replacement for joints. Sometimes, I just don’t want to taste rolling papers, and it makes it so much easier to get that effect without the hassle of rolling. I really like how much control it gives you over how much you want to smoke and that it can be used as a one-hitter or for microdosing.

The flavors are also absolutely amazing. Seriously, you can’t beat fresh greens every time. And since the airflow is excellent, it comes out super cool and smooth, making it a clear winner, in my opinion. It does get dirty pretty quickly, but that’s to be expected since you can spend so much time smoking it in one go. My only real complaint is that you want to hit it gently. It’s rare for it to canoe or burn unevenly, but it’s not unheard of.

Who This is Ideal For

At $40, 7Pipe’s Twisty is a game changer. It’s incredibly portable, discreet, and versatile. But it also has incredible flavors and smooth hits to boot. It’s like if a glass blunt and a one-hitter had a baby and is the best one-hitter on this list if you want something portable that you can share multiple times without reloading.

As I mentioned, I love a good dugout. This one comes with a metal bat one-hitter that looks like a regular cigarette, which is great if you’re looking for something durable and discreet.

Build Quality

Cheech and Chong collaborated with Grasscity to make these little one-hitter dugout tins. Made from CNC aluminum and featuring the iconic Up In Smoke logo, it offers a durable and reliable stash solution. The swivel lid opens the compartment containing your stash and the metal bat.

While the dugout is a considerable bonus for loading, I’m reviewing the bat itself in this review. Cleverly disguised to look like a filtered cigarette, it’s made of aluminum and can withstand plenty of abuse. It’s just about as small as they come, too. Between the durability of the aluminum, the incognito design, and the immaculate Cheech and Chong vibes, this one is built exceptionally well.

Size and Portability

In true one-hitter fashion, this bat design is tiny and thin. It’ll only hold one puff of weed, but it’s super easy to cash out and reload with quickness, thanks to the storage compartment in the dugout. The stash section can hold about 3g of ground flower, which is a nice touch when you’re on the go.

Unfortunately, the tin itself is covered in Cheech and Chong references, so if you leave this thing sitting out in the open, it’s obviously paraphernalia. Regardless, it’s no larger than a deck of cards, so it’s easy to stash in your pocket. More importantly, the bat is extremely anonymous, with nothing to give away your weed habits other than the smell.

Features

The biggest and best feature of this dugout is the one-hitter itself. Nothing beats that level of discretion, and it does its job well. The tip has a serrated edge that makes scooping weed into the bowl as easy as pressing into your storage compartment.

As far as the dugout itself, it’s pretty simple and doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but it does come in 5 great colors. The swivel top is a nice touch that keeps everything inside safe and secure and doesn’t let the smell out. It’s not airtight, though, so if you’re using something super skunky, there’s a good chance you’ll still smell it.

Ease of use

Bats can be annoying since they’re skinny and narrow, so cashing them out can sometimes be tricky, especially if you’ve gone without cleaning them. Luckily, tapping, blowing, or getting in there with a paper clip is usually enough to get it rolling again. Other than that, loading it is a snap, thanks to the dugout, and cleaning it is as easy as soaking it in some iso.

Performance

The Up in Smoke dugout performs well, offering ample space for material and plenty of room to get it loaded into the included one-hitter bat. The bat itself performs well, considering the design. Bats are prone to getting clogged and dirty quickly, so they need more maintenance than the wider tasters or tubes. However, it works as intended. You’ll get a nice puff of weed, solid airflow, and good flavors. This design is great since it’s a lot harder to overwork it and burn yourself.

Who This is Ideal For

If you’re a fan of Cheech and Chong, you can’t beat this little dugout for $25. It makes for a great conversation piece and works super well. It’s the best one-hitter on this list if you want something discreet and pocket-friendly for on-the-go use.

Another winner from EYCE comes their Shorty, a perfectly sized one hitter made from silicone and glass. Better yet, you can get a titanium attachment and use it with concentrates as a nectar collector. I’m all about versatility, and this one performs beautifully.

Build Quality

The EYCE Shorty is made from cured silicone, one of the best heat-resistant materials money can buy. It’s also one of the most versatile in terms of color choices, and like the Solo I mentioned earlier, there are so many gorgeous combos to choose from. I picked a slime green and black one that I just really enjoy looking at.

Anyway, it utilizes a removable borosilicate glass bowl that plugs into the silicone body. It creates a perfect seal between the body and the bowl, which improves airflow and helps for smoother hits. The silicone sleeve also protects the glass, which keeps it safe from breakage. The only issue is that the glass lip that helps create the seal is visible, so if you drop it perfectly, it’ll break. It loses points for this reason since 13mm is such an uncommon size for a glass attachment, and replacing the bowl is just as expensive as buying an entirely new Shorty.

Besides the bowl, the Shorty itself is virtually indestructible, and the silicone material is highly heat resistant, so you’re looking at smooth hits that won’t burn your fingers or mouth with repeat use.

Size and Portability

The Shorty is roughly 4” long and can easily be concealed in a pocket or bag. I really like the extra deep bowl attachment, though. This may be a one-hitter in the truest sense, but it offers the capacity of a chillum. All that said, it’s super discreet. Like most of the one-hitters on this list, I do wish it came with a cap or something so you could pre-load it and put it in a bag until you’re ready to use it. But ultimately, it can still go anywhere you go.

Features

My favorite thing about the Shorty is how versatile it is. The bowl comes out and can be swapped for a quartz or titanium filter tip if you want to use it like a honey straw— AKA a one-hitter for dabs.

The included bowl is pretty durable and has a good-sized airflow hole at the bottom, so you’re getting good hits but not sucking a bunch of scoobs into the body or your lungs. Aside from the bowl, the design is virtually indestructible and handles heat like a champ. It also has a little loop to clip a lanyard or keyring to make it more accessible and travel-friendly.

While it doesn’t have a ton of bells and whistles, it’s a solid design made for swapping and traveling, so it’s a hard ten in my book.

Ease of use

Like the rest of the chillums and one-hitters on this list, Shorty is simple. I love that the bowl snaps in and out for easy loading, unloading, and cleaning. The body is pretty wide, too, so cleaning it is as easy as rinsing it with hot water.

Performance

Thanks to the silicone body, you’re not at risk of burning your hands or lips while taking back-to-back hits. While silicone imparts a mild flavor to your weed, it’s not all that noticeable since it’s a short vapor pathway, and the bowl is made of glass. The bowl is easy to toast evenly thanks to the wide, rounded shape, and the airflow on it is exceptional, even without a carb. Shorty also doesn’t take a lot of effort to use, ash, or cash. Cleaning it is a walk in the park, too. I think it’s biggest performance bonus is the swappable bowl attachments, which give it more versatility. All things considered, it performs practically flawlessly, and it’s easy to keep track of.

Who This is Ideal For

For $15, the Shorty is one of the best one-hitters out there if you’re looking for a good heat-resistant one-hitter and like the look and feel of silicone. Its bright colors and silicone body make it easy to keep track of and take with you wherever you go. Shorty is a great option- especially at the price- whether you’re taking big hits and sharing with friends or microdosing flower or dabs.

What’s the Difference Between Chillums and One-hitters Anyway?

Chillums vs One-Hitters infographic

I can’t tell you how often I’ve been asked this question, especially since these terms are used interchangeably. If you want to get really technical about it, the difference comes down to size and shape.

Chillums and one-hitters are both discreet and portable pipes used for smoking flower. However, one-hitters are usually smaller and tube-like, while chillums are larger and may have a bowl without a carb on one end.

One-hitters can usually only handle one hit of weed at a time, hence the name. They come in different subcategories, like bats, dugouts, tasters, spirals, etc., which reflect their design and features. Don’t worry; we’ll break those down more clearly in the reviews below as we get to them.

Chillums, on the other hand, are a bit larger but still portable. If you’re sharing and want more than one hit at a time, go with a chillum. Alternatively, you can go with a one-hitter that you’ll have to load and reload with each hit. They are both very similar and popular ways to smoke cannabis.

It’s not that serious, though, folks. Most of the time, the terms chillum and one-hitter are used interchangeably, so opt for something that looks good and will come with all the features you want in a portable smoking device.
